There are some weeks that remind us exactly why we made the decision to leave Australia and begin a new chapter in southern Italy... and this was one of them. One of the things we love most about our town is that during summer the local businesses work together to bring life back into the historic centre. Every evening the streets close to traffic, the shops throw open their doors, musicians perform on street corners. It's a wonderful reminder that sometimes the simplest ideas create the strongest sense of community.. We also catch up with Lee & Mark, who many of you will remember from our Dream to Reality series. Three years ago they shared their dream of spending extended time in Italy, and today they're truly living like locals here in Salento. Hearing their reflections has been one of the highlights of our week. One of the things Lee and Mark have loved most about being here is discovering traditions they never knew existed we brought them to the Scorrano Santa Domenica Light Festival. Along the way, we meet more wonderful people who are beginning their own Italy journey, enjoy a short escape to beautiful Pietrasanta in Tuscany, and finish with one of our favourite Salento sunsets. For us, this isn't about ticking destinations off a list. It's about slowing down, building friendships, becoming part of a community and embracing the simple pleasures of everyday life.
