Antenna Height and Line of Sight - Radio Design 201 #6 (Part 1)
Microwave transmission is different from lower frequencies like HF. This episode examines the problems of transmitting long distances. We show how antennas are often sited to satisfy the line-of-sight requirements. Complexities considered include the classic Fresnel issues, but also earth curvature and two-path cancellation (multi-path). This is part 1 of a two part episode. Part 2, previewed at the end, will cover field strengths, field exposure limits, and an introduction to the mathematical treatment of radio waves presented in the university course that Radio Design 201 is abstracted from.
