Side control escapes when your opponent switches base. Half the battle when your stuck in these difficult positions like side control is having a plan. Having a plan will help you mentally deal with being in these situations but also will help you stay one step ahead of your opponent. Its important to not just have the fundamental escapes put also be prepared if your opponent switches things up on you... like switching base. Switching base can be a really effective way to stop the hip escape or the underhook escape, it really controls your hips and closes down the space. As with most things though when they change up how they are attacking you it will leave them exposed to other escapes. We cover some of your options in this video.
