Extended Display Identification Data (EDID): Problems, Pitfalls and Complications - Hans Verkuil, Cisco Systems Norway The EDID describes the capabilities of a display, allowing a video source to transmit video that is understood by the display. This presentation describes what sort of information an EDID contains and how video sources such as graphics drivers are supposed to interpret them. The main focus of this presentation is how EDIDs are used by DisplayPort and HDMI interfaces, and the complications that arise when dealing with the subtle differences between Consumer Electronics devices such as TVs and A/V Receivers, and IT devices like laptops and PCs. The presentation will also look at recent developments, specifically w.r.t. the CTA-861 standard which describes an EDID Extension Block that is used by both DisplayPort and HDMI interfaces.
