The owner who rides this bike pretty hard, ran his bike a little low on oil. As most of us know, oil is super important. Long story short, this engine is no good. To start, we ran some test to see if we can decide whether or not this is salvageable. To start, we did a compression test on all 3 cylinders. Unfortunately, we got a reading of zero on all three. This prompt us to dig a little deeper. A quick glance at the valves, we noticed they were obviously bent. Personally, I think the low oil level caused low oil pressure which did not engage the automatic chain tensioner which relies on that oil pressure. This seems to have caused it to jump timing resulting in the valves making contact with the pistons. Once we dug even deeper, we noticed the timing chain was rubbing on the case, the tensioner itself was completely broken. And if the oil has gold flake in it, that's not good either. You do not want metal chunks or glitter in your oil. Then we dropped the engine out to take an even closer look. After doing this, we were able to see where the cam is just worn down from the damage. At the end of the day, this customer is wanting to do a full engine rebuild on this XSR. We'll keep you updated on this engine build as we knock it out!
