The Story Behind Joyous Celebration: Pastor Jabu Hlongwane Unpacks His Journey

Jabu Hlungwane is more than just a gospel music icon he's a teacher, pastor, visionary, and one of the founding forces behind Joyous Celebration alongside Lindelani Mkhize and Mthunzi Namba in 1994. His journey began when he was at high school and continued in university where he led a choir that would later evolve into one of Africa’s biggest gospel ensembles. After Nelson Mandela's release from prison, Jabu helped fund the first Joyous Celebration project to celebrate the Mandela’s release, driven by faith and purpose. With 3 years of teaching experience and 10 years in college lecturing, Jabu has always been passionate about education and transformation. At the age of 25, he realized his calling to be a pastor. In 2010 he started he’s own church and has now served as a pastor for over 15 years, even financing Cross Power Ministry from his own resources. Coming from a legacy of excellence, his father was a player for the Swallows Football Club. Jabu also authored a powerful book named Finding Meaning, which reflects his deep spiritual journey and purpose-driven life.
