CAPITAL (1990–1996): The actual starting point and predecessor of the K3 lineage. Initially launched as a mid-size sedan, its position was later changed to a compact sedan through line-up reorganization. It was developed based on the Mazda Persona. SEPHIA / New SEPHIA / SEPHIA Leo (1992–2000): The first compact model independently developed by Kia. It gained popularity in the North American market, followed by annual/design updates such as the New SEPHIA and SEPHIA Leo.
