This trial update on sugarcane planting with an unusual number of seedlings demonstrates the development and growth of sugarcane after five months of planting. Three seedlings were planted in each row, with the hope of increasing the number of shoots. If any of the shoots fail to grow, they can be replaced with others, thus maintaining the sugarcane population within each row. This unusual number of seedlings also aims to avoid replanting, which results in the formation of undeveloped buds. By ensuring a stable sugarcane population in each row, it is hoped that sugarcane production will be maintained and even increased. Specifically for rain-fed areas, the number of cane stalks, the number of internodes, and the height of the cane at five months are key indicators of success in sugarcane farming. By five months, the cane should have at least five internodes and a height of at least two meters. In unfed areas, newly planted cane typically only reaches 15 to 18 internodes and a height of 2.5 meters, unless rainfall occurs until the end of May. Currently, Indonesia's rainfall is erratic, with some regions entering the dry season in early May and others in early June. This rainfall will significantly impact the growth of sugarcane, which relies on rainwater.
