#458 Pr Laurent Karila : Déjouer les addictions, conserver le plaisir !

/!\ Under no circumstances should the information and advice offered by Métamorphose be considered a substitute for medical and/or paramedical care. /!\ Anne Ghesquière interviews Professor Laurent Karila, Professor of Psychiatry at Paul-Brousse Hospital in Villejuif (94), specializing in addiction, on Métamorphose. It's not always easy to detect an addiction and understand where the tipping point lies between pleasure and danger... Is your smartphone your security blanket? Can't you finish a meal without a little something sweet? These are some questions that should raise awareness and prompt us to ask ourselves if we are addicted to an object, a substance, or a relationship... In his new book, "Doctor: Addict or Not?" published by Harper Collins, Professor Laurent Karila offers advice on how to continue enjoying life without falling into addiction. Episode #458 With Professor Laurent Karila, I will be discussing the following topics (excerpt from the questions): Are we all addicted to something in one way or another? How does pleasure lead to addiction? What mechanisms are at work in the brain, particularly those related to reward? What are the five factors that contribute to addiction? What are the four brain circuits involved in addiction, and what happens when someone becomes addicted? Are there such things as "positive" addictions? Are there effective treatments? For which addictions? And what about tobacco? What about food, alcohol, and coffee? How can we understand and overcome "cravings," as you call them? Let's talk about love and sex addiction. Do you know the difference between the two? Can you be addicted to your smartphone? You also talk about addiction to relaxation? Who is my guest, Professor Laurent Karila? Laurent Karila is a professor of psychiatry at Paul-Brousse Hospital in Villejuif (94). Specializing in addiction studies, a discipline he also teaches at Paris-Saclay University, he is also a spokesperson for the SOS Addictions association. He is a regular guest on the French television program "Ça commence aujourd’hui" (It Starts Today) on France 2 and hosts the podcast Addiktion. He recently published "Doctor: Addict or Not?" with Harper Collins. Some quotes from the podcast with Professor Laurent Karila: "Willpower is a micro-phenomenon in the motivation circuit; if your motivation circuit is broken, willpower won't work either." "At the forefront of the consequences and psychiatric comorbidities of addiction are depression and anxiety disorders." "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) amplifies addictive behaviors." "The fundamental idea behind treating addictive disorders is to rediscover pleasure, because in addiction, there is no longer any pleasure." #LaurentKarila #Addiction #food #alcohol #drugs Subscribe to the Newsletter here: https://www.metamorphosepodcast.com/ Discover the Metamorphosis Wheel and the 9 pillars of your life for free! https://metamorphosepodcast.outgrow.u...
