Officers have no power to stop you, seize your phone, or make you delete anything ✅ "YOU'RE A TRESPASSER" is not a magic word that creates a power. If a place has public access (no boundary, no sign), you're likely not trespassing at all. And even a genuine trespasser must be ASKED to leave, GIVEN a real chance to go, and only then removed with the MINIMAL force needed — not grabbed the instant the word is said ✅ ★ YOUR BODY IS INVIOLATE — you have a right not to be touched. Unlawful touching, with no power behind it, is TRESPASS TO THE PERSON (battery). It needs NO injury: "the least touching of another in anger is a battery" (Cole v Turner, 1704). A grab of the arm, a hand to move you, taking your phone — each is a battery you can sue for if there was no power ✅ THE ONLY QUESTION the law asks when a hand goes on you: WAS THERE A POWER? A lawful arrest, a lawful search, a proper removal — those make force lawful. No power = it isn't lawful force, it's just force ✅ TAKING/SWITCHING OFF the phone with no power is also a TRESPASS TO GOODS — a second civil wrong stacked on the first ✅ IN FAIRNESS: the police CAN touch you when they have a genuine power (a lawful arrest or search), and there ARE truly private, secure parts of a site. The failure here was specific: public access, lawful filming, no offence — and hands went on him anyway ✅ THE OUTCOME: the man didn't fight — he kept filming, then instructed solicitors, who put a civil claim (trespass to the person + trespass to goods) to the Met. The Met SETTLED and paid ~£5,000, "without admitting liability" — which in plain English means they decided it was cheaper to pay than to defend it in court. Ask: "Am I being detained?
