Europe as a global actor in a fractured world | Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands

On the occasion of his official visit to Germany and Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, will join the Hertie School to discuss his view of Europe as a global actor. The year 2024 will mark a decisive moment in EU history. With elections in the European Parliament, around 400 million Europeans will have an important say about the future of the EU. Moreover, democracy will be tested around the globe when some two billion people from Washington to New Delhi will elect their new heads of state and government. In parallel, Brussels is facing enormous internal and external challenges that require tough policy choices: How can the EU manage its enlargement process and stay effective at the same time? What are the prospects and conditions for the EU as geopolitical actor to ensure peace building in Ukraine and the Israel-Gaza War? How will the EU continue to shape policies towards a green and sustainable future? The next steps taken on these policy issues will not only determine the role and impact of the European voice in the world but also decide upon the prospects of growth and well-being for EU citizens. Join our discussion on these and other EU topics with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Hertie School President and Professor of International Political Economy Cornelia Woll. ━━━━━━━━ Understand today. Shape tomorrow. ▶ Website: https://www.hertie-school.org ▶ Facebook:   / hertieschool   ▶ Instagram:   / thehertieschool   ▶ Twitter:   / thehertieschool   ▶ LinkedIn:   / hertie-school   The Hertie School is a private university based in Berlin, Germany, accredited by the state and the German Science Council.
