CPT Coding : Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsies
This presentation discusses CPT coding guidelines for fine needle aspiration biopsies and compares them to other biopsies, including core needle biopsy, excisional biopsy and incisional biopsy. Guidelines for these biopsies include use of modifier 59. Different codes are used depending on whether or not imaging guidance modalities were used (ultrasound, fluoroscopic, CT or MR guidance) and how many lesions were biopsied. Different scenarios are presented with coding guidelines and examples for each. I would love to hear from you!
