Getting Power to the Interlogix Simon XTi & XTi-5

In this video, Jorge shows users how to provide power for a Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5 Alarm System. These systems receive primary power from a plug-in AC transformer. The user will need to connect a wire from the transformer to the system. A backup battery provides power when the electricity is lost. As electrical devices, alarm systems require power to operate. If power is completely lost, the system will shut down entirely. This can be particularly concerning for security systems, since users depend on this equipment to keep their home or business monitored. So not only is it important to receive reliable primary power, but also reliable secondary power. The main way that most alarm systems receive power is through plug-in transformers. These devices connect with any standard wall outlet to provide consistent power. As long as the electricity is working, the system is connected and the transformer is plugged in, the AC power will work. This setup provides great reliability in keeping the system running. But let's say that the transformer becomes unplugged or the electricity goes out. Then what happens? Most alarm systems address this potentially common occurrence by having a reliable backup battery. The backup battery is a rechargeable device that maintains reserve power that it can provide to the alarm system. When the transformer power becomes unavailable for whatever reason, the system will automatically switch over to its backup battery reserve. Normally, the system will be running on AC power. While this is happening, the backup battery will slowly be storing reserve power that it receives from the transformer. This way, the backup battery will be ready for a power outage. But after a few years, the backup battery will no longer be able to reserve power, and it will no longer be able to function properly.
