Outback Queensland Road Trip from Winton to Emerald This week we journey from the Outback to the Ocean, saying goodbye to Winton and travelling 600km to Emerald, in Queensland’s Central Highlands. We find out what it's like to camp in the Outback of Australia, Queensland. We overnight in the sleepy town of Alpha, famous for its fossilised wood, and set up camp for a week at one of our favourite spots just south of Emerald, Lake Maraboon. We spend days visiting the nearby Sapphire Gemfields, immersing ourselves in the history and culture of the area, exploring underground mines and trying our hand at fossicking for precious and beautiful gemstones!
