Kislinger maintains that the deaths, which still "number in the tens of thousands," are a consequence not only of the earthquakes, but also of a government that has "hindered rescue efforts" and activated its teams only after "extremely long hours of waiting." For the analyst, this deliberate inaction toward people trapped under the rubble constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights: “You are violating human rights because you are not acting, not because you are standing idly by due to a lack of capacity. You have the capacity to act; the problem is that either deliberately or simply due to ineptitude, you are not acting.” Kislinger also severely criticizes Washington’s stance toward the Delcy Rodríguez administration. While he acknowledges and deeply appreciates the massive U.S. humanitarian deployment on the ground, he points to an alarming political contradiction emanating from the White House. In his view, while the international community condemns the regime, the United States seems to be giving it political breathing room: “The oxygen tank is no longer being pumped in by the infamous ‘scorpion’ (a derogatory term for the regime), but rather by the White House itself into the Caracas regime.” This double standard, according to Kislinger, paralyzes the previously announced transition and stabilization phases, leaving the country’s political future in a dangerous limbo.
