Hen Lays An Egg

Three minutes leading up to our Buff Orpington "Goldie" laying a brown egg. It usually takes our hens 30-45 minutes (or more!) to lay the egg once they've climbed into the nesting box. That time is spent nest building and turning around and around to find the best position. Goldie is a quiet layer but some of our other hens make all kinds of chittering and chirping sounds. Naturally, it's a labor intensive process so by the end they are panting and exhausted. The egg is very warm when it comes out and slightly shiny/wet. Contrary to myth, chicken eggs do not come out soft.
