Haryana - Lord Brahma performed Yagya in Kurukshetra after which the world was created Brahma Sarovar Kurukshetra::::- Brahma Sarovar, as the name suggests, is associated with Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. Taking a dip in the holy water of the Sarovar during a solar eclipse is believed to equal the merit of performing thousands of Ashvamedha Yajnas. According to local legends, this tank was first excavated by King Kuru, the ancestor of the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Seeing its huge water body Abul-Fazl, the courtier of Mughal emperor Akbar, during a solar eclipse, described the huge water body of this Sarovar as a miniature ocean. According to local tradition, a tower was built by Yudhishthira in the island situated in the middle of the lake as a symbol of his victory in the Mahabharata war. There is an ancient Draupadi Kup in the same island complex. The temple of Lord Shiva situated on the northern bank of the lake is called Sarveshwar Mahadev. According to tradition, the Shiva Linga was established here by Lord Brahma. The annual Gita Jayanti celebrations are held on the banks of Bramrovar in November-December. By bathing, one gets virtue equal to that of performing Ashwamedha Yagya:-- It is believed that by merely bathing in this pond, one gets virtue equal to that of performing Ashwamedha Yagya. This pond is 1800 feet long and 1400 feet wide. It is said that especially on the occasion of solar eclipse and Gita Jayanti, thousands of people come to take bath in this pond. According to the scriptures, all the gods are present here in Kurukshetra at the time of solar eclipse.
