How do paternity leave and the family time bonus work in Austria? With paternity leave, you, as a father, can spend the initial period after the birth with your family. The video explains how to properly notify your employer. When you take paternity leave, you will not receive a salary or wages. Instead, you can apply for the family time bonus. You do this through the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK). Important: You have a legal right to paternity leave. This means your employer cannot refuse it.
