These Green, Sustainable Houses Are More Than 600 Years Old
The Taos Pueblo have occupied these homes for more than 600 years, but they embody concepts that seem modern today. They're constructed of adobe made from local mud, which absorbs sunlight during the day, keeping the building cool, and radiates that heat at night, warming it. They're stacked up to five stories high without the benefit of modern technology, creating a community-centric apartment building. And the building materials are recycled as much as possible.
