He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education there. His interest in football attracted attention in high school and he began his football career at Ankara Demirspor. He later went on to play professionally at Gençlerbirliği SK and was selected for the National Youth Football Team, marking a significant milestone in his football career. Alpay, who developed an interest in football during his high school years, played both left and right wing positions. Selected for the Turkish Junior National Football Team at the age of 16, the artist was known for his ambidextrous use of both feet. However, forced by his father, he was forced to quit football at the age of 18, a decision he has said was the biggest regret of his life. After completing his studies at Ankara Faculty of Law, Alpay embarked on his musical career in the 1960s. During his university years, he began making experimental music in the romantic folk and rock genres. Before even making his stage debut, in 1963, he recorded the song "Kara Tren" (Black Train) with the Doruk Onatkut Orchestra, and his voice began to be heard on the radio. In 1964, he formed his own band and performed at the Büyük Sineması in Ankara that same year. During these years, he performed many French Chansons and arrangements of Italian Neapolitan songs, adapting them into Turkish. He also interpreted some poems by Attilâ İlhan. In 1972, he teamed up with the band Üç Hürel and released their first record, "Aşk Böyledir - Gönüllerde Bahar" (Love Is Such - Spring in the Hearts). In 1973, he recorded his second record, "Can Kara Gözlüm" (Can Kara Gözlüm). The artist has released around 800 songs throughout his musical career. He stated that he sometimes forgets his songs, saying, "I wrote this song!" when he hears them on the radio or television. He emphasized that he doesn't dedicate any of them to his children, just as he doesn't dedicate any of them to his children. He stated that some very good and timeless songs were created in Turkey, but that this quality has diminished significantly these days. He said he generally doesn't listen to new music and criticized the decline in music quality today. He noted that female musicians are emerging, but male singers are fewer, and that they use Turkish incorrectly, even though using Turkish correctly was crucial in their time. He continued: "Now they call me Tarkan, but I can't find anything special about him. There are 50 people I could listen to and mistake for Tarkan. His voice is completely unimportant. A song he makes is thrown away after 10 days. He has one lasting piece of music, and he doesn't know about it. He has a song called Winter Sun. It's a first-class song. It could be a lasting one. I think "Come in September" is still number one now, a song from 1975. "Factory Girl" is a song from 1969. I mean, I have a lot of songs. "Halimdeki Resim" is a song from 1989. "Aylık Rüzgarı" is a song from 1975. Now I'm going to make new songs," he said. Alpay explained how his paths crossed with Fecri Ebcioğlu and Bora Ayanoğlu, who composed the arrangements for "September Come" and "Fabrika Kızı." He explained that "September Come" was a huge hit, and he became known as "Turkey's best singer." He candidly admitted that he earned a good living from music, but also gave away the same amount of money. Alpay also shared that his close friend Selçuk Yöntem wanted to make a film about his life, and that he was open to the idea. He reiterated that his biggest regret was quitting football early, explaining that he received praise from managers as a talented player back then. He said he could have pursued both football and music simultaneously, but he didn't. He also stated that he didn't understand rap music, that more than 50 of his songs have become number one, that it's important to create songs that live on, and that he criticized Tarkan, believing his voice and songs weren't permanent. He noted that many of his own songs, including "Seylül'de Gel," "Fabrika Kızı," "Hayalimdeki Resim," and "Aylık Rüzgarı," remain number one even after all these years, and expressed his dream of creating new songs. In 2022, he celebrated his 55th year with the tribute album "Respect to Alpay." This album featured performances by artists such as Fuat Güner, Kubat, Gökhan Tepe, Emre Altuğ, Mirkelam, Gripin, Cemil Demirbakan, Demet Sağıroğlu, Gözde Ural, Cemil Sağyaşar, and Hülya Yıldız. The artist, who is planning a jubilee concert soon, expressed his desire to have Tarkan attend the concert. After living in the house he bought in Izmit, Alpay left after the deaths of his friends, choosing Bodrum as his final destination. Having lived in Bodrum for about a year, the artist state...
