Dover During the American Revolution
Recorded from our May 2026 First Saturday Program at the Delaware Public Archives. You can see our upcoming events in the link below: https://archives.delaware.gov/events-... Dover was not just any small town before and during the Revolution. It had access to world goods and had the money to purchase them. Many were educated and knew proper societal standards. Not only was it the county seat, but it became the capital of Delaware in 1777. The residents of Dover and the surrounding plantations felt the rise of patriotism and loyalty to the mother country, but were also concerned about how it would affect them. They did not always agree, but realized they needed to work together to move forward and keep the peace in a town where everyone knew everyone, and many were related. Come and explore what was happening around town during a time that tried men’s and women’s souls. Presented by Margaret Raubacher Dunham.
