[ EAStalk ] Non-Invasive Biomarkers for Aquaculture Health Monitoring (EU IGNITION)

As global demand for animal protein continues to rise and climate change places increasing pressure on aquaculture systems, sustainable solutions that support fish health and welfare are becoming more important than ever. In this EAStalk webinar, Dr. Cláudia Raposo de Magalhães and Dr. Luiza Wasiewska present the latest developments from the EU-funded IGNITION project. The project aims to improve health and stress monitoring in key aquaculture species, including European seabass, Atlantic salmon, and rainbow trout, through innovative non-invasive technologies. The webinar explores how multiomics approaches, machine learning, and skin mucus analysis are being used to identify novel biomarkers of fish health and stress. It also highlights the development of cutting-edge electrochemical biosensors based on miRNA biomarkers, enabling continuous, real-time health monitoring and early intervention in aquaculture production systems.
