The Black Rogue – Slow Double Jig Play Along | Tenor Banjo

The Black Rogue is a traditional Irish double jig that is widely played in sessions and is a well-known part of the Irish traditional repertoire. The tune is played in the key of D and is known for its lively rhythm and strong melodic phrasing. The tune has a two part structure AABB and appears in many tune collections and recordings. It is commonly played on fiddle, flute, whistle, accordion, pipes, and tenor banjo. The Black Rogue is played as the second tune in a set after Down the Back Lane. I learned this set of tunes from Charlie Piggott, the renowned accordion and banjo player from De Dannan, whose playing and tune choices have influenced generations of Irish traditional musicians. Because of its energetic lift and clear phrasing, it remains a favourite among session players. This slow tenor banjo play along is designed to help musicians learn the tune clearly and practice the phrasing before bringing it up to full session speed. 00:00 Intro 00:04 A Part Slow 01:15 B Part Slow 02:45 Outro
