Potlicker Sailing Dory Series Introduction
This video introduces a series of videos on the design, build, and use of a 16' sailing dory. The name "Potlicker" comes from an insult suggesting something is depraved and destitute, willing to stoop to desperate measures to fulfill one's needs. The boat is a dory with the ends cut short and the chine angle maintained from bow to stern. These allow the boat to have an underwater shape greater than it has earned, while the design's panels can be developed without computers. In my build, I ran into a handful of problems- many of which get fixed. Dimensions for parts are included in the videos for free for anybody brave enough to attempt to build one, but I suspect that after seeing the challenges involved in putting together an otherwise simple boat, most will be reasonable enough to avoid attempting one.
