In question 9 from the 2020 leaving cert higher level maths exam paper 2 we start by using the theorem of pythagoras to calculate the distance between two ships. In part b we use a general formula for the distance the ships have travelled to find the function of the distance between the two ships and in part c we use calculus to find the minimum distance between the two ships.
