On June 15, 2026, Komeito Party Senator Kozo Akino questioned the House of Councillors' Budget Committee. Senator Akino emphasized the need to expand Japan's successful approach to combating Helicobacter pylori, a cause of stomach cancer, to support stomach cancer prevention efforts in other countries such as Mongolia. He also called for strengthening the research system, citing the efforts of Oita University, a leader in H. pylori research. Furthermore, he addressed the challenges of emergency vehicle operation on public roads for tow truck and roadside assistance services, which are involved in saving lives at accident sites. In addition, he called for promoting the dissemination of accurate knowledge about non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections to prevent prejudice and misunderstandings among patients.
