Jackson Virtuoso set up

It's made in the USA; in the Corona factory. It's simple, good looking and has a very nice, 5-piece roasted maple neck. And I'll warrant that it's been Plekk'd. (Pause) But... The frets were very steeply bevelled and also slightly 'sprouted' - a combination of things that James found got in the way of enjoying it - and I agreed after test playing. So my instinctive decision was to remove the neck and re-bevel the fret ends, this time cutting them flush and giving them a more slopey angle. Add to that some precision fret levelling to take care of the bit that the Plek doesn't seem to be able to do (the 'fret slap' on the wound stings at low playing actions) and everything would be fine. And so it was. Except one little detail: the design of the headstock. Ok, many people will know that I dislike these angled headstocks because they're form over function - in fact they're usually form at the COST of function. Here the angles are not the most extreme but they do put the nut under a ton of unnecessary pressure. It creates friction that simply doesn't need to be there as Leo Fender and Brian May knew and as PRS still knows. But ok, we can live with that because... style. What really doesn't work though is when you stop and look at the high E string. It has no break angle over the nut. And the only way to improve the open string note is to install a string retainer bar (or string trees). But it was supposed not to need that 'cos it has a tilt-back headstock. Not far enough it seems.
