Oude Dozen: lukte het met de macramé plantenhangers?
As promised, the ladies of Timzalot, the house of handicrafts, are going back in time under the motto: old boxes. You can interpret that however you like. In this episode, we'll look at how we once attempted to macrame a plant hanger... 00:00 What are we going to do? 00:50 Let's get started. 05:33 What are we wearing? 08:18 Where did all that stuff go? 12:30 The recap The old box opens. We're starting this episode with a new section: The old boxes. And no, this time not boxes full of projects, but boxes full of memories. We're going to look back at old videos of ourselves. A kind of Timzalot time travel. After more than five years of making videos, we've built quite a history. And that history, of course, also includes all sorts of WIPs – works in progress. Some projects have been neatly finished, others have quietly disappeared into a box. Apparently, that's all part of it. Maybe we'll dig it up sometime. But first: an old episode from four years ago. With about 3,400 views and 68 thumbs up, from the time we filmed in a different setting – downstairs in the house, with a huge avocado tree in the background. Our hair has changed, our hairstyles have gone through a few versions, but otherwise, we hardly changed at all. Coincidentally, we're even wearing almost the same clothes as back then. Léia is wearing the exact same blouse again, and Dini still had her old outfit in the attic. It feels a bit like we're stepping into an old photo. In that episode, we were going to make something that was all the rage back then: macramé. The plan was simple: knot a plant hanger for Mother's Day. Practical, because if someone doesn't like it, you can always put a plant in the pot. We dutifully start with the instructions: cut meters of string, fold the string in half, make a loop, and tie a knot. In theory, macramé is simple: a few basic knots and repeat. In practice, it turns out to be a little less clear-cut. Wires get tangled, bottles fall over, and meanwhile we talk so much that we no longer know which wire belongs where. Slowly, something resembling a plant hanger takes shape. We divide the wires into bunches, tie knots with the neighbors, make half and full knots, and try to keep everything at the same height. Of course, that only works partially. And as the project progresses, another insight also emerges: crafting should, above all, remain fun. Sometimes you have to persevere, but sometimes you can just say: this is not my hobby. So yes, the end result may not be perfect. But somewhere in a cupboard they are still there: those macramé hangers we finally finished. A little piece of Timzalot history. And that's precisely why we occasionally open the old box again. To see where we came from – and to laugh about it together again. Because at Timzalot, projects sometimes disappear into a box... but the stories always resurface. 🧵✨ Timzalot, the House of Crafts, is an initiative of Dini Bangma and Léia Smit, who wanted to show during the coronavirus crisis how enjoyable it can be to craft with a friend or in the company of the Timzalot members. It has been scientifically proven time and again that knitting, crocheting, embroidery, or any other craft technique you try can have a calming effect and relax your mind. And of course, the bonus is that your work yields something valuable, simply because you made it yourself! And the fact that we're almost into our sixth year, with new ideas still coming up every week, proves that the possibilities are practically endless. You can also find Timzalot, the House of Crafts online: www.timzalot.nl and on Instagram: / timzalot . Did you know that fun craft kits are now available in the Timzalot shop? Visit www.timzalot.shop. The kits always include plenty of materials and detailed work descriptions. Léia often makes an instructional video as well. You can find these instructional videos in the classroom (playlist on this YouTube channel, or www.timzalot.nl/leslokkaal. Yes, there's a typo there, unfortunately, but it's the correct URL). You can also simply go to the website and select the "classroom" tab. Music: www.bensound.com
