Tongues, Trinity, and Christian Mysticism feat. Chris E.W. Green

In this conversation, we explore speaking in tongues, Pentecostal history, the Trinity, Christian mysticism, and how theology is meant to be lived rather than merely analyzed. Instead of reducing tongues to a single controversy, we trace how the church has understood tongues across history, including missionary languages, prayer language, and the way early Pentecostals framed tongues in relation to the fullness of God and the primacy of love. We also move into Trinitarian devotion, why the Trinity is not mainly a technical puzzle but a way of being located inside the life of God in Christ, by the Spirit. Along the way, we touch on church history, saints like Teresa of Avila, discernment between holiness and imitation, and the limits of apologetics when worship and shared framing are missing. Finally, we connect all of this to wonder, pace, and the Eucharist, including reflections on Tolkien and how a Eucharistic vision trains us to receive creation as gift, to practice restraint, and to live with “gaps” rather than trying to control everything. If you have questions about tongues, charismatic spirituality, the Trinity, or the role of experience in theology, this conversation is designed to be both intellectually serious and spiritually grounded.
