RUMINATIONS: At the end of the year, I did a “Top 15 Worst Comics I’ve Reviewed” excluding Holy Terror since it was the big obvious choice and Avengers #200 hit the high spot… and I still mean it. There are certainly worse on a technical level, but I think the fact that this one was supposed to be done by experienced professionals says a lot about its badness. It’s like that with movies sometimes – there are plenty of enjoyably awful movies that people recognize for their awfulness, but then there are ones so devoid of joy and entertainment that are much more slick that you actually hate all the more since it seems like somebody, ANYBODY should have been able to step in and stop it from being a problem. The same goes for comics, and one would think that major milestone books would have had that same level of scrutiny to ensure they’re the best damn thing they could put forth, since even putting aside the awful treatment of Ms. Marvel, doing 200 of a creative endeavor should be something that’s given a grandiose treatment and instead this could have been issue #63 and it would have made no difference to anything.
