A device that helps track lost belongings has generated concern among women, whose privacy is being violated by jealous ex-partners who monitor their location daily. This tool, intended as an aid, becomes a weapon when it falls into the wrong hands. One victim, who preferred to remain anonymous, told us how she discovered her ex-partner's stalking: “I went to pick up my son from school and he strangely behaved withdrawn. He gave me a signal, and that's how I found out.” The woman discovered that her ex-husband had hidden a tracking tag inside his car, allowing him to know almost all of her movements. In addition to the tracking device, the doctor also had all her contact information shared with her ex-husband after he shared links in conversations that cloned her messaging app without her knowledge. In this way, he knew everyone she was talking to and everything she was going to do each day. According to the law, the crime is classified as stalking. Introduced into the Penal Code five years ago, this legislation aims to protect victims against repetitive harassment that violates their dignity.
