Student Dig Diaries: Unearthing Roman Villa | Time Team Plus

Dr John Gater joins Dr Philippa Walton, Time Team’s Roman finds expert, in her day job as Lecturer in Roman Archaeology at the University of Leicester. The episode goes behind the scenes at one of the University’s archaeological fieldschools. The 2-week dig was run as a fieldschool for first-year students from the University’s School of Archaeology and Ancient History. For most, it was their first taste of an actual archaeological dig, with the added excitement of becoming media stars! The site itself promised to be an exciting Roman Villa - what better way to get a taste of archaeology! The episode features candid mobile phone footage of the dig and Time Team cameras caught up with the students and supervisors during post-excavation.
