Rode VideoMic GO II Distortion Problem Explained

In this video I give a definitive example of the distortion problems inherent within the Rode VideoMic GO II, using my Sony ZV-1 camcorder. Having already made a few videos showing the issues with the GO II, Rode sent me another GO II in case there was a problem with my one. This test uses both my original Videomic GO II and the one that Rode sent me. With both microphones producing the same distortion issues, it's clear that the GO II has distortion problems when paired with certain cameras or recording devices. As the recording itself wasn't clipping, the mic input on the Sony ZV-1 works with every other mic I have including a number of other Rode microphones and the SPL of the mic isn't an issue. Then the only remaining logical point of the distortion is the output of the mic itself. The output from the mic is simply too high for the microphone input on certain cameras. This is also evident in videos by other YouTubers who have proven the same problem of distortion exists and there are other videos on YouTube that show the issue but the YouTuber wasn't aware.
