Granite Creek BC Ghost Town | Once 3rd Largest Town In British Columbia
Granite Creek was once one of the fastest-growing towns in British Columbia. In 1885, gold was discovered here by John Chance, sparking a rush that brought over 2,000 people into the valley almost overnight. By 1886, Granite Creek had become the third largest population centre in the province... built on hope, hardship, and the promise of gold. But like so many boomtowns of the era… it didn’t last. In this episode of Tracks, Trails & Forgotten Tales, we uncover the rise and fall of Granite Creek, through historical newspaper accounts, early photographs, and what remains today. From the stories of discovery… to the lives of the people who came chasing fortune… to the quiet remains left behind in the hills of the Similkameen… Today, little is left, just scattered foundations, rusted metal, and the faint traces of a town that once thrived. 🎥 Featuring: • Historical photos and newspaper archives • On-location exploration and drone footage • The story behind one of BC’s forgotten gold rush towns 📍 Location: Granite Creek (Granite City), Similkameen, British Columbia ⸻ 📚 Sources & Credits: BC Archives Granite Creek Preservation Society Gold Creeks and Ghost Towns – N.L.
