The Battle of Freedom: Karbala | Study Circle by International Iqbal Society in collaboration with Kickstart In this study circle by International Iqbal Society, titled “The Battle of Freedom: Karbala,” we explored Allama Iqbal’s powerful poem: در معنی حریتِ اسلامیہ و سرِ حادثۂ کربلا On the Meaning of Islamic Freedom and the Secret of the Tragedy of Karbala The session was conducted by Sahibzada Shah Heer Ellahi Sahib, who explained the deeper meanings of freedom (حریت), moral courage, faith, and sacrifice in light of Allama Iqbal’s thought. This discussion reflects on the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and the true purpose of his martyrdom — that truth, dignity, justice, and freedom can never be compromised in the face of tyranny and falsehood. Karbala is not merely a historical event; it is an eternal message of resistance, self-respect, and unwavering commitment to divine principles. Through Iqbal’s vision, we learn that true freedom is not only political independence, but spiritual strength, moral integrity, and the courage to stand for truth even in the most difficult circumstances.
