Pyrostegia venusta belongs to the Bignoniaceae family, native to South America, where it is distributed in Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. In Argentina, it is found in the provinces of Corrientes, Jujuy, Misiones, and Tucumán, growing up to 1,300 meters above sea level. They are characterized as woody, climbing shrubs with exuberant blooms of great ornamental value. They can reach a height of approximately 29 meters and are vigorous growers. The generic name 'Pyrostegia' derives from the Greek 'pyr' (fire) and 'stege' (to cover), meaning "covering with fire," alluding to the spectacular effect produced during flowering, when they form a dense covering of intense orange. The specific epithet 'venusta' comes from the Latin 'venustus', meaning showy, beautiful, graceful. It was described by English botanists John Bellenden Ker Gawler and John Miers in 1863 and published in Proceedings of the Royal Horticultural Society of London.
