KTM Macina Scarp SX Exonic I Bosch light mtb Performance Line SX I Test I Trail Bike
Today we present the brand-new, motorized KTM Macina Scarp SX Exonic, which expands KTM's e-bike portfolio into the light e-mountain bike category. KTM's previously known Scarp models are non-motorized mountain bikes that fall into the XC race and marathon categories. And it's precisely this elegance, sportiness, and handling that KTM has incorporated into the motorized version of the Macina Scarp SX models. The recently introduced Bosch Performance Line SX drive system has been integrated into the sleek and beautifully designed carbon frame. The compactly constructed and approximately 2 kilograms lightweight motor generates a maximum torque of 55 Newton meters or up to 600 watts of power. The new SX motor draws its power from the newly developed CompactTube 400 energy storage unit, which has a capacity of 400 watt-hours. The carbon main frame features KTM's renowned Power Tube Top Loader design. This allows the energy storage unit to be easily removed and reinserted from the top of the down tube. The CompactTube 400 comes in a handy size and weighs around 2 kilograms, making it easy to carry a second battery in your backpack, for example. Alternatively, Bosch also offers a 250 watt-hour range extender. This can be easily attached to the KTM's battery cover and connected to the system via the charging socket. Minimalist and unobtrusive, the system controller integrated into the top tube and the mini remote screwed to the handlebar further emphasize the clean and sporty look of the KTM. The system controller provides information about the remaining battery capacity and the selected riding mode via LEDs. Countless other setting options, such as customizing the riding modes and other features, can be accessed and used via the popular E-Bike Flow app. The Macina Scarp SX rolls on 29-inch tires, features a geometry geared toward XC and trail riding, and offers 140 millimeters of suspension travel front and rear. The rocker arm on the shock absorber is discreetly integrated into the frame design, and the various bearing points of the rear triangle are each sealed with waterproof rubber end caps. The battery cover features 16 pre-drilled mounting holes on the inside. This allows for customized arrangements of, for example, a water bottle cage and the 250 watt-hour range extender, both of which are screwed directly to the battery cover. A second bottle cage can also be mounted under the down tube. Internal cable routing and the brake caliper located in the rear triangle stylishly round off the KTM's clean look. The new Macina Scarp SX is available in three frame sizes: medium, large, and extra-large. For example, in the medium size, the reach measures 456 millimeters and has a top tube length of 600 millimeters. The chainstays are 451 millimeters long. The head angle is 66 degrees and is combined with a seat angle of 76.5 degrees. Our Macina Scarp shown here weighs just 16.7 kilograms and will be sold to its new owner for €11,099. The light e-mountain bike comes standard with the following high-quality equipment. For the chassis, the Austrians rely on Fox Factory Kashima components, specifically a Float 34 suspension fork and a Float Factory air shock. Shifting is electronic and radio-controlled via the latest Sram XX Eagle AXS transmission, which generates a gear range of 520 percent. The Sram XX Eagle rear derailleur is powered directly by the Bosch battery. Also battery-operated and radio-controlled, the saddle height can be adjusted in a flash thanks to the RockShox Reverb AXS seat post. The smooth-rolling Schwalbe race pair "Racing Ray & Racing Ralph" is mounted around the elegant DT Swiss XRC 1501 carbon wheelset. Braking is provided by a Shimano XTR brake system, each with a 180-millimeter brake rotor. The cockpit is elegantly completed by the lightweight, one-piece carbon stem-handlebar unit from FSA. KTM offers the new "Macina Scarp" light e-mountain bike in three different configurations. Pictured here is the top-of-the-line "SX Exonic" model for €11,099. This is followed by the "SX Prime" version for €8,399. The "SX Master" is the most affordable version, priced at €6,299. You can see how the bike performs on the trail in the video.
