Message and Theme Hopeful Thomas For those who know the story of the disciple Thomas, the title of this Sunday’s message may be surprising. Indeed, the word that is often associated with him is “doubting”. The fact that he returned to the gathering of the disciples the next week, after he had heard their story of Jesus’ resurrection, meant that while he doubted the story (and while everything he knew about life on earth only seemed to confirm his doubts, he went back. Perhaps something in him hoped it was true. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at the complex issue of hope using the book “I hope so: How to choose hope even when it is hard” by Dr. Robyne Hanley-Dafoe as a guide. This week we will look at the story of Thomas and reflect on our own stories of hope. When was the last time you hoped for something and it came true?
