Post No. 1 in Pyatigorsk was established by veterans of the Great Patriotic War in the 1970s at the "Flame of Eternal Glory" memorial, erected at the burial site of 160 Pyatigorsk residents tortured to death by Nazi invaders in January 1943. Veterans and honorary citizens of the city were the first to stand guard at the Eternal Flame, then passing the baton to schoolchildren. On May 9, 1973, schoolchildren, armed, stood in memory at the "Flame of Eternal Glory" memorial for the first time. For many decades, the city has maintained traditions, and the Young Army members standing guard at the memorial have become a symbol of love for their homeland, passed down from generation to generation. Every year, more than a thousand students take part in the Memory Watch. The combined honor guard has become the city's calling card. Young Army members perform drills, wield weapons, and create various compositions. In the late 1990s, Pyatigorsk Post No. 1 was transferred to the city's education department and became a center for military-patriotic education. Here, in the park, next to the Alley of Heroes of Pyatigorsk, stands a monument to the outstanding general and diplomat Alexei Petrovich Yermolov. Thanks to him, these places belong to Russia.
