Coinciding with the US announcement, several areas in southern Iran experienced a series of explosions, amid reports of air defense systems being activated in Hormozgan province. The Iranian news agency Mehr reported hearing an explosion in Bandar Abbas, Iran's largest port on the Persian Gulf. Local sources also reported hearing explosions near Bandar Abbas and Sirik, as well as a series of explosions on Qeshm Island, though no official statement has been issued regarding their nature or cause. Iranian television confirmed hearing eight explosions in Bandar Abbas, coinciding with the activation of the city's air defense systems. Iranian media also reported that air defenses were activated in Sirik, while explosions extended to other locations in the south of the country, including Lavan, Konarak, and Chabahar. An Iranian television correspondent reported hearing three explosions in Konarak and one in Chabahar, noting that the source of the sounds remains undetermined.
