Old Melbourne City in 1975 home movie A trip down memory lane. My father filmed the Melbourne CBD and surrounds in 1975 using a Super 8 film movie camera. I had the flim converted to digital format for uploading to YouTube. Landmarks Location Start - Flinders Street 0:03 - SEC building in Flinders St 0:11 - Fletcher Jones shop cnr Flinders & Queen Sts 0:18 - Cnr Flinders & Queen St - notice the lack of trees and shade 0:44 - Flinders St station precinct 0:52 - Federation Square site - notice the Gas & Fuel buildings 1:02 - Batman Av tram - Batman Av is now gone - part of Fed Sq. 1:18 - YMCA building on cnr Sturt St and City Rd South Melbourne - partially obscured on the left. 1:19 - Southbank site 1:19 - Mobil petrol office which is now 28 Southgate apartments and the APM building which is now Quay West hotel 1:36 - A. W. Allen Ltd factory with the famous "Allen's Sweets" sign 1:55 - view of Northbank and CBD - notice the absence of the Rialto building which dominates this view today 2:06 - Flinders St Station and Palm trees - both still there! 2:09 - Queen Victoria Gardens - St Kilda Rd 2:10 - Floral clock 2:38 - the skinny dork walking across the screen is yours truly (where has that black hair gone?) 2:58 - nice view of the floral clock 3:15 - St Kilda Rd looking south
