Furthermore, our extensive selection of foreign coins attracts many international buyers from around the world. This video features examples of foreign coins that are sure to generate significant interest during the auction. Beautiful and very rare Hungarian ducats, specifically ducats from Transylvania, which for centuries was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. The Polish name, Transylvania, comes from the seven fortified cities in this region. Several important mints operated there in the Middle Ages. We present, among others, two ducats belonging to the first Prince of Transylvania, John Sigismund. The first was minted in 1562 at the Kolozsvár mint. Today, this is the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca. The mint's mark in Kolozsvár was a tower. The second ducat was minted in 1570 at the Szeben mint – which was marked with a crown and two swords. Both coins feature the coat of arms of John Sigismund on the obverse, while the reverse features the Madonna and Child with the inscription "patron saint of Hungary." The next ducats from this party were those of Gabriel Báthory. The Polish King Stephen Báthory was his grandfather's brother. Gabriel was Prince of Transylvania from 1608 to 1613. The first of these coins was minted at the Nagybánya mint in 1609. The mint is indicated by the letters N and B. The mint imperforate is preserved on the obverse and reverse. The coin is slightly bent, very rare, and known from only a few auction listings. Another Gabriel Báthory ducat, but minted at the Kolozsvár mint. On the obverse, the ruler's half-figure, the letters CV, representing the previously mentioned mint. On the reverse, the Báthory coat of arms, known from the mint of Stephen Báthory, features three wolf teeth. Mint freshness, sharp details, unworn relief, and signs of bending. We also see a small period indentation, made to verify the coin's gold content. And another Gabriel Báthory ducat, this time from the Szeben mint, present-day Sibiu in central Romania. On the obverse, the prince's bust, and on the reverse, the Báthory coat of arms, with CIBINI in the field next to it. The coin is also in excellent condition, with an intense luster, but unfortunately slightly bent. Also up for auction is a ducat from 1606, bearing the image of Stephen Bocskai. The ducat was minted at the Kolozsvár mint, as indicated by the letters CV next to the bust. The reverse features a particularly interesting design – a lion holding an arrow, surrounded by a dragon. The lion with an arrow comes from the Bocskai family coat of arms, while the dragon alludes to the Order of the Dragon, an elite knightly order founded by the King of Hungary in the early 15th century. A double-sided mint mirror, this truly magnificent specimen. Also up for auction will be a 1626 ducat featuring the image of Gabor Betlen. He is considered one of the most important rulers of Transylvania, who also ascended the throne of Hungary. It's practically mint-quality, with no signs of circulation or bending, which is unusual for 17th-century ducats. All coins will be available for bidding during the 18th catalog auction, scheduled for May 2026. Visit www.aukcje.numimarket.pl
