How was it made? | Pushing silver to its limits | Ndidi Ekubia | V&A
We joined contemporary silversmith Ndidi Ekubia on a tour of some of her regular sources of inspiration and in her studio in Manchester. Whilst demonstrating the mesmeric process of raising, chasing and embossing her signature organic vessels, Ndidi discusses her love of pattern, the traditional tools she uses and her desire to create functional objects. The resulting 'Sparkle vase' is painstakingly hand-crafted by pushing and manipulating metal to its limits to create a textural, fluid quality to the surface. 00:00 Ndidi introduces us to her local area in Manchester 00:29 Falling in love with metal 01:01 Creating functional silverware 01:39 The importance of pattern 02:34 Raising the metal with a hammer 03:37 The metalworking tools 04:14 Applying the pattern to the surface 05:05 Annealing the metal to make it pliable 05:33 A finished 'Sparkle Vase' going on display at the V&A Watch more How was it made? films: • How was it made?
