The song speaks to longing for homeland, cultural memory, and resilience - echoing a powerful theme in Mediterranean and diaspora communities. In this performance we honored the Cypriot Maronite Arabic dialect Sanna, a moribund dialect spoken by the Maronite community of Cyprus, offering a rare glimpse into its sound and preservation through music. This Sounds of Cyprus performance is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and under the auspices of the Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus.
