The Original Chapeltown Station Site
We're back on the trail of Sheffield's Lost Railway Stations. We're still in Chapeltown in the North of Sheffield. Last time we saw the old GCR station on the Blackburn Valley Line. This time we're on the remaining Sheffield to Barnsley Railway Line (ex-Midland Railway). In 1987, Chapeltown station opened. Know as Chapeltown South. In 1984 the station was relocated a very short distance south nearer the centre of the village to where it sits today. At some stage it dropped the South from it's name, being the only station left in Chapeltown. These days, just up from the 1984 station, the old platforms still sit as well as the former station building by the bridge. Sadly in a very sorry state.
