But sometimes the biggest obstacle between us and our dream retirement isn’t our finances. It’s the uncertainty of doing something unfamiliar. Before my husband and I started slow traveling through Southeast Asia, I had many of the same fears. I worried about communication, transportation, safety, healthcare, budgeting, and whether we would actually enjoy living overseas for an extended period. But once we arrived, many of the things that felt intimidating began to feel normal. We learned how to use Grab, navigate public transportation, stay in hotels and apartments, manage our travel budget, and build a comfortable daily routine in Southeast Asia.
