DONNER & DORIA, a trio of 'Spielleute' (minstrels) hailing from the Ore Mountains ('Erzgebirge') in the German region of Saxony, have for the past 10 years professionally traveled the countryside and entertained people at town festivals and medieval markets throughout Germany and other European countries. Their wide and varied program of music ranges from contemplative to rock. The band plays traditional as well as original pieces on period instruments such as bagpipes, shawms, Davul, hurdy-gurdy, Waldzither, violin, lute and bouzouki. (Source: http://www.donner-und-doria.de) The "medieval spectacle" at Burg Gräfenstein lasted for three days (Aug. 7 - 9). Performers from all over Germany participated, and entertained the local crowds with medieval songs and melodies, stories, and staged medieval fights. Aug. 07, 2015, was one of the hottest days of the year, with the thermometer reaching 38 degrees Celsius at Gräfenstein Castle that day. I can only imagine what it must have felt like to walk around all day clad in full medieval metal armor and heavy leather garb weighing more than 30 kg!
