The giant camellia tree "raised since my great-grandfather's time" has been sold—and the method used to transport it is completely beyond imagination! Interest in landscaping, which allows people to enjoy beautiful flowers and trees in their own spaces all year round, is on the rise. We introduce the grueling work sites of those striving to eco-friendly decorate outdoor gardens, rooftops, and small indoor spaces. Moving a 150-year-old camellia tree! In a village in Geoje, Gyeongnam, people are preparing to move a massive camellia tree located on a steep slope to the outdoor garden of a cafe in Gimhae. Root-balling and transporting a camellia tree estimated to be about 150 years old is an exceptionally difficult task. First, the branches are pruned and organized, the trunk and main boughs are wrapped with protective padding, and the root-balling process begins by digging a deep circle around the roots. The most important thing in this process is to prevent any damage to the tree! To achieve this, flawless teamwork between the heavy equipment operator and the ground workers is critical. A single mistake could cost the tree its life or cause severe injuries to the workers, so no one can let their guard down for even a second. The weight of the root ball alone is a whopping 5 tons. Even after the excavation is done, immense effort is required to safely load it onto the truck. It is a task that demands extreme physical strength as well as absolute focus. Will they be able to move this 150-year-old camellia tree safely? We visit the intense work site where a 5-ton camellia tree is excavated and transported. The rooftop landscaping site creating a healing space in the heart of the city! At a building in Jung-gu, Seoul, crane operations are in full swing to lift materials. This is to create a garden on the rooftop of a 6-story building. To turn an empty concrete rooftop into a beautiful garden, various steps are required. First, they build a wooden deck that will serve as a relaxation area. Before assembling the floor, the work begins by creating a structural frame using steel pipes. From cutting the pipes to welding them, everything must be done without a single millimeter of error or mistake, as the foundational work is critical to creating a sturdy and neat result. Once the frame is made, the wooden deck is assembled on top of it. After the flooring work is done, planting preparations follow. Due to the nature of plants, root-barrier sheets are installed to prevent water from seeping into the building's concrete floor or roots from growing and threatening the structural safety of the building. After laying down drainage boards and non-woven fabric over it, lightweight artificial soil and horticultural topsoil are spread to create an environment where plants can thrive. Finally, once the planting of trees and vegetation capable of growing well even at high altitudes is complete, a healing space in the heart of the city is born. Planterior brings nature indoors! Meanwhile, "planterior"—an interior design style that utilizes plants indoors as well as outdoors—is also highly popular. It is in high demand because a single plant installation can provide visual pleasure and completely change the overall atmosphere of a space. Industrial styrofoam is used to create an installation that looks like a miniature version of an actual rocky hill. The styrofoam is cut and shaped into rocks, and then texturizing agents and moss are attached to express the rough surface and three-dimensional depth of a real rock. Artificial flowers are then woven individually using wires and inserted into these crafted rocks. By using artificial flowers, people can enjoy a wide variety of blooms regardless of the season. Since the final outcome varies drastically depending on the colors used and how the flowers are arranged, the creators put in massive amounts of research and effort to replicate a scene close to real nature.
