It emphasizes the use of management practices in preference to the use of off-farm inputs, taking into account that regional conditions require locally adapted systems. This is accomplished by using, where possible, agronomic, biological, and mechanical methods, as opposed to using synthetic materials, to fulfill any specific function within the system. Mr. GVSR Prasad, Thadikalapudi, West Godavari District farmer has followed the Sustainable farming technics in his 25 acres of land for 15 years. He is cultivating Cocoa as an Intercrop in Coconut. He has got very good results by adopting the Rain harvest technology. He has arranged the trenches and Bunds between the rows of Coconut and Cocoa. Because of this, every drop of rainwater sinks into the ground and also avoiding soil eradication. Coconut leaves and cocoa leaves can also be used as fertilizer by spreading and decomposing the soil. With these methods, he is able to cultivate crops with completely organic methods without the need for fertilizer. Yields on the coconut, cocoa crops also increased by 50 percent over the previous years.
