Adventist Pathfinders Marches in St. John’s 19, April 2025
A Long-Awaited Procession: A March Worth the Wait The wait had been building for days—weeks even. Ever since the announcement of the Pathfinder march, with its “shedding move time” firmly set for 2:45 PM, excitement began brewing. I arrived early, well before that mark, the atmosphere already tingling with energy. My gear was prepped: batteries fully charged, lenses spotless, memory cards ready to roll. I wasn’t going to miss a moment. The Rising Sun Cricket Ground was buzzing—flags being unfurled, brass instruments gleaming in the sun, uniforms crisp and proud. The sun had been blazing overhead, casting long shadows across the grounds. Yet, it wasn’t until just after 4 PM that the true magic began. With an air of ceremony, the processions began to move. The Route Unfolds: From the Rising Sun Cricket Ground to streets in St. John’s. They poured out from Rising Sun Ground, a rhythmic sea of disciplined youth, proud elders, and uniformed precision. Drums set the pace, brass lifted spirits, and banners rippled with purpose. • Queen Elizabeth Highway welcomed them with open lanes, cars pulled aside, drivers watching in awe or tapping out video clips from their windshields. • They turned with graceful symmetry onto Independence Avenue, a symbolic name that echoed the spirit of the pathfinders—young leaders forging ahead with purpose. • As they made their way down Redcliffe Street, the city center seemed to pause. Shoppers, tourists, and vendors froze to admire the spectacle, phones out, children waving. • Onto Thames Street, where their boots struck the pavement with harmonious cadence. • They crossed over to Newgate Street, now flanked by curious onlookers leaning out from upper balconies or cheering from store doorways. Every turn was met with excitement: • Popeshead Street added its own charm with its mix of old colonial buildings and modern storefronts, creating a striking contrast against the neatly marched ranks. • A right onto Dickenson Bay Street, a more open stretch where they seemed to pick up pace slightly, the drums louder, the coordination tighter. • A crisp right onto Cross Street, and then a left onto the ever-busy Old Parham Road, where the late afternoon sun cast a golden glow over the procession. They marched past vendors and onlookers , past neighborhoods that paused their Saturday rituals just to take in the moment. • Then a decisive right onto Newgen Avenue, where you could feel a second wind surging through the group. • On Factory Road, the procession held strong, not missing a beat even as the shadows lengthened. • One final left turn back onto the Rising Sun Cricket Ground, bringing the full circle of the march to a close, just as the sun began to lower itself behind the western hills. #pathfinders #pathfindersCongressoree
